High Speed Sintering: Is today's sinter process of zirconia magic?
High-speed sintering - is that the magic word for zirconia? What does this mean and what influence does the rapid sintering of zirconia have on its mechanical and optical properties? Can this also be used to cover all indication areas? All these questions will be answered within the context of this lecture.
The development of zirconia is progressing extremely rapidly. In recent years, it has progressed from being an opaque framework material to become an esthetic material for monolithic restorations. However, it is not only the composition of the material that is constantly being optimized, but also its processing. Today it is possible to mill and, above all, sinter the material in a short space of time. High-speed sintering takes about 30 minutes. During this process, the chalk-like material is transformed into a hard state with its final strength. But is fast always good? These questions regarding the mechanical and optical properties will be answered within the context of this lecture. In this context, own investigations and existing scientific literature are presented and critically discussed.
